Statement in Support of the Asian American Pacific Islander Communities

As members of the Physics Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee we stand against racism, xenophobia, and sexism.

In the wake of the six Asian women killed in Atlanta, GA—and a rise in Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) harassment incidents that have taken place during the COVID-19 pandemic—we stand with all of our AAPI communities and denounce these acts of violence. These acts derive from ignorance and hate. By speaking out, we wish to shed light on racial discrimination present in America. An honest reckoning cannot begin until we recognize these acts as racially motivated. Acknowledging the systemic racism that exists in America offers the chance to repair and make amends. These steps are necessary to ensure safety, peace, and liberty for all.

Our hearts and sympathies are with the families and friends of these victims,
