Dr. Chuanwei Zhang’s research interests include theoretical ultracold atomic gases, quantum information processing, photonics, topological quantum materials, and 2D materials.
Zhang has published over 145 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including ~60 in journals like Nature Physics/Communications and Physical Review Letters. He is an elected Fellow of the American Physical Society (2017) and was a recipient of a DARPA Young Faculty Award (2010) and APS Texas section Robert S. Hyer Award (2015)
He joined the Department of Physics at WashU as a Professor in January 2024 after receiving his PhD in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2005, and B.S. from University of Science and Technology of China in 2000. He was a postdoctoral associate at the University of Maryland (2006-2008) and an Assistant Professor at Washington State University (2008-2012). He joined the University of Texas at Dallas as an Associate Professor in 2012 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2016. At UTDallas, he served as the Associate Department Head and Graduate Program Head from 2015 to 2023.
