The Department of Physics and the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences participated in the Graduate School and Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Fair held on January 7, 2024, during the 243rd meeting of the American Astronomical Society (AAS) in New Orleans.
These fairs are the largest graduate student recruitment events in astrophysics in the United States, attended by over 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students over a duration of one and a half hours just before the Opening Reception. Among the people attending the fair and staffing the WashU Physics booth were Assistant Professor Tansu Daylan and his graduate students Nathan Whitsett and Bryce Wedig, Assistant Prof. Manel Errando, and undergraduate student T Thomas.
Following the event, Dr. Daylan commented, "It was exciting to engage in such insightful conversations with enthusiastic prospective students. We answered questions about our research thrusts and investigations led by our astrophysics groups, as well as other local research initiatives synergistic with astrophysics. Additionally, conversations covered our graduate program in physics, fellowship opportunities offered by the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences, and the academic climate on campus."
