Understanding the MiniBooNE excess

Dr. Sabyasachi Chakraborty (Hosted by Dev), Florida State University

Recently, the MiniBooNE experiment reported an excess of electron like events over the standard model background. This anomaly points toward an additional oscillatory frequency, which can not be accommodated in the prototypical three-generation neutrino oscillation paradigm. Instead of finding a new physics explanation to explain this excess, we take a closer at the background estimation of the experiment. This main background is estimated from theoretical models that depend on a few important assumptions and can have significant deviations that can explain the observed excess.
