Physics Graduate Student Seminar with Lucas Graham on My Hot Biological Wet Lab Summer

Lucas Graham of Washington University in St. Louis will be presenting the seminar on "My Hot Biological Wet Lab Summer"

Instead of your standard gradsem research talk, this week I’ll be giving a ‘here’s what I did this summer’ talk focused on taking summer courses. Summer courses are a great way for graduate students to learn specific skills in their niche research thrust.

This summer, I spent 7 weeks at the Cell Physiology course offered by the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Now, I am not a biologist; additionally, I don’t study individual cells. You may be asking yourself: “Well then, why did you attend the course?” Come to my gradsem to find out! I will regale you with tails of building advanced microscopes, stories of peril featuring specimen from the mighty slime mold to the simple squid, and generally act as an advertisement for physical biology & the MBL. There will be some (dubious, sample N = 1) science I guess if you’re into that too.
