Dominic Bernardi of Washington University in St. Louis will be presenting the Graduate Student Seminar "Bee cause why not"

Bees and honey have been an important part of civilization for thousands of years. The history of  Bee keeping is rather brief, as there has only been a few major developments in the last 2000 years. I will discuss this history, the important breakthroughs, and the everyday tasks of a  Bee keeper.  Bee cause  Bee keeping involves understanding the behavior of  Bees, most of this talk will be a discussion of  Bee behavior. We’ll talk about how and when  Bee s reproduce, what they do in the wild, how they build hives, how they make honey, all about the various honey products, and what honey is worth buying. We will also talk briefly about pests and problems beekeepers run into. Other insects similar to bees, like hornets. Hornets are…interesting. And yes, there will be honey.
