Physics Colloquium with Bhupal Dev on New Probes of New Physics in the Multi-messenger Era

Bhupal Dev (Hosted by Krawczynski) from Washington University in St. Louis will be presenting the colloquium "New Probes of New Physics in the Multi-messenger Era"

There is ample empirical evidence that the so-called Standard Model of particle physics is an incomplete theory. However, despite decades of theoretical and experimental efforts, the nature of new physics beyond the Standard Model and its associated energy scale remain  unknown. It is therefore essential to have a multi-pronged approach at all possible energy scales. We will show that recent breakthroughs in high-energy astrophysics and gravitational wave physics provide new windows of opportunity for new physics searches, complementary to direct laboratory probes. We will take neutrinos and axion-like particles as case studies to highlight the importance of multi-messenger astrophysics in the quest for physics beyond the Standard Model.
