The Nuclear Equation of State

Steven Harris will be discussing nuclear equations of state and how really smart people use Neutron Stars to constrain models of the strong interaction.

The equilibrium behavior of a system of interacting particles can be described by an equation of state, a relationship between thermodynamic variables of the system.  After giving some simple examples of equations of state, I will describe the challenges of determining the nuclear equation of state and discuss how neutron stars can be used to help constrain our models of the strong interaction.
