The Dean’s Medal honors a friend whose dedication and support have been exceptional and whose leadership, advice, and inspiration have served to place Arts & Sciences at the heart of one of the world’s premier universities.
Martin Israel is a professor in the Department of Physics in Arts & Sciences and a member of the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences at Washington University. From 1987 to 1997, Marty served in the university administration, including seven years as dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences followed by three years as vice chancellor for academic planning. Since returning to teaching and research, he has been a faculty member on committees including the Arts & Sciences Advisory Committee on Tenure, Promotion, and Personnel and the university-wide Institutional Conflict of Interest Committee.
