Physics Graduate Student, Writasree Maitra, awarded QUP Internship at KEK in Japan

Physics Graduate Student, Writasree Maitra, has been awarded a highly competitive QUP Internship, which will take her to KEK in Japan for three months of cutting-edge research.


The QUP Internship Program is hosted by the International Center for Quantum-field Measurement Systems for Studies of the Universe and Particles, an institute dedicated to uniting innovative measurement science with some of the most profound questions in fundamental physics and cosmology. Earning a place in this program is an outstanding recognition of Writasree’s talent, hard work, and potential as a rising physicist.  

Writasree is a member of the Dev Research Group at Washington University, a research group led by Prof. Bhupal Dev with broad interests in elementary particle physics, particle astrophysics and particle cosmology. During her internship, Writasree will work on advancing our understanding of the diffuse supernova neutrino background. Her project focuses on how high-energy neutrinos, such as cosmogenic and astrophysical neutrinos, can enhance detection prospects. Importantly, she will also explore how scenarios beyond the Standard Model of physics might influence these processes, with the goal of setting new constraints on potential physics parameters. This ambitious research not only seeks to deepen our grasp of the universe but could also help pave the way toward discoveries of entirely new physics.  

Her success in securing this internship is a reflection of her creativity, intellectual drive, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of what we know.
