Zooming in on inner light-years of a dark matter halo

Nuclear Physics Seminar with Anna McCoy on Quantum Computing for Nuclei 101

Anna McCoy (Hosted by Pastore/Alford) from Washington University in St. Louis will be presenting the seminar "Quantum Computing for Nuclei 101"

Quantum computers have been put forth as a means of combating the rapid grow in the scale of the nuclear many-body problem with increasing number of nucleons.   While current quantum computers do not provide a sufficient number of high quality qubit to demonstrate quantum advantage over classical computers in solving the nuclear problem, we can still begin to explore the use of quantum computers in the (hopefully) not so distant future.   I will provide a brief introduction to  solving quantum many-body problems on a quantum computer and discuss some of the challenges associated with different approaches for first encoding and then solving the nuclear problem on quantum computer.
