Global climate change

Since the beginning of the industrial revolution and mostly in the past century, the activities of the Earth's human population have caused major changes in the chemical composition of the earth's atmosphere. These changes are causing a warming of the earth by a process called the "greenhouse effect." The consequences of a planet-wide warming of just a few degrees could be catastrophic.
