Amplifying at the Quantum Limit

John Monroe

In the Murch Lab we work on small things. How small? Very small. They're the smallest things. How do we see small things? We look at them harder and stretch them to see them better. But stretching can be bad if we pull the wrong part. In this talk I'll present work on the design and fabrication of amplifiers that operate at the lowest possible noise level. I'll discuss how to characterize noise and how to mitigate its effects while measuring attowatt-scale signals.
