Supernova Constraints On Light Scalar And Gauge Bosons

Event Description 

The hot and dense core of supernovae is a special circumstance to study the elementary particles and their interactions. A large variety of hypothetical light and weakly interacting particles can be amply produced in the core and then escape. In this talk, I will concentrate on two distinct examples. First I will show you how the couplings of dark photon to the standard model particles can be constrained by the energy loss argument, the blow-away conditions, and the MeV gamma-ray observations. Th second example is to study the effective couplings of a light (pseudo)scalar to the active neutrinos, which is also tightly limited by the SN1987A observations and can be significantly improved in the future.
