On April 24th, Dr. Ann Viano, a WU alum and president of Sigma Pi Sigma, presided over the installation of a Washington University chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society. Congratulations to seniors Carolyn Auchter, Alex Cloninger, Jared Fuchs, Jonathan Mueller, Chris Rinaldi, Huajia Wang and faculty member Dr. Patrick Gibbons, the charter members of our local chapter.

Congratulations to Carolyn Auchter, Jonathan Mueller, and Huajia Wang, the 2008-2009 recipients of the Senior Prize in Physics.

Congratulations to Carolyn Auchter who received the 2008-2009 university-wide W. Alfred Hayes Award, which is presented to outstanding senior athletes who by personal example have provided constructive leadership at Washington University. Carolyn was an active member and past-president of the women's ultimate frisbee club.

Congratulations to senior Jonathan Mueller who was inducted into Sigma Xi, the international honor society of science and engineering. Members are elected based on their research potential and achievements.

Congratulations to Andy Kanyer, Ross Ladau, Sean Lourette, Josh Molone, and Laura Rayhel, the 2009 recipients of the Washington University Undergraduate Research Fellowships. Junior Hunter Banks received the Greg Delos Award for Summer Research in Physics. These fellowships provide undergraduates with the opportunity to conduct summer research at WU under the supervision of physics faculty.

Based on the breadth and depth of chapter activities, the Washington University Society of Physics Students chapter was a recipient of the Outstanding SPS Chapter Award in Spring 2009.
