The Physics Department Machine
Shop is a technical support facility whose primary function
is to provide technical assistance to the students, faculty, researchers, and administration.
The Shop's duties include manufacture, updating, and maintenance of scientific teaching apparatus
for the undergraduate and advanced labs located in Crow Hall.
It is also responsible for contribution to design and construction
of state-of-the-art research projects and related equipment
for the experimentalist groups located in the adjoining Arthur
Holly Compton Laboratory of Physics.
|
Equipment:
The Physics Machine Shop has a
wide assortment of conventional machine tools as well as welding,
sheet metal, and woodworking equipment. It's versatile complement
of tools and technician skills make it capable of fulfilling
almost any manufacturing demands placed upon it by researchers
and engineers. Though the shop is primarily a prototyping facility
it will soon be receiving it's first computerized machine tool
which will expand the scope of machining options available
to project designers.
