GREG DELOS SUMMER FELLOWSHIP (1 award): The Delos family and friends have generously endowed this Fellowship in memory of Greg who was one of our physics majors. The Fellowship is for ten weeks in the summer of 2009 and pays a total of $4000. Application is open to all undergraduate physics majors in this Department. The purpose is to support a summer's research opportunity for the selected student to work with a mutually acceptable research group of his or her choice, which can offer such participation. Generally, this award is granted to support the continuation of an existing project.
HOOPES SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (4-7 awards):
We are also proud to announce several Hoopes summer research fellowships for 2009, with help from the Office of Undergraduate Research. The Fellowship is for ten weeks in the summer of 2009 and pays a total of $4000. The purpose is to provide a gateway for summer research in an on-campus laboratory with an appropriate faculty mentor. Nomination for this fellowship is made by a faculty member, generally after conversations with the student about research possibilities; we encourage you to discuss potential nominations with faculty members who are doing research that interests you.
Selections for both awards will be made by the undergraduate studies committee; awards will be announced before March 17. Conditions of the award are: i) that no other projects may be undertaken at the same time as the award and ii) that students submit their work to the Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Fall of 2009 in the form of a written submission and/or lecture. Students who wish to work with a mentor who is not in the Physics department should find a faculty member in the Physics department who is willing to be a co-mentor. |
