Center for Materials Innovation
The Center for Materials Innovation (CMI) which was formed in 2003 and is directed by Physics Prof. S.A. Solin is the focus of much of the materials research and condensed matter physics at WU. The multi-disciplinary CMI has grown to a membership of 35 faculty, approximately 100 grad students and 15 under grads, spanning many departments and the schools of Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Applied Sciences and Medicine. Major research thrusts in the CMI include, Nanoscience, Magnetics, Biomedical Materials, and Energy Related Materials. See http://www.cmi.wustl.edu for additional information.
McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences
The McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences is a consortium of Washington University faculty, research staff and students from the departments of Earth & Planetary Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering. The Center exists to encourage collaborative research efforts among scientists working on space science problems and projects that span traditional departmental lines. The "Mac Center," as it is called, fosters this type of endeavor through the sponsorship of cooperative research and through formal activities such as the Visiting Scientist Program. See http://mcss.wustl.edu/ for additional information.
